Updated Message From Superintendent Regarding Coronavirus - 3/12/2020

Corona Virus Resources and Information Click Here

Dear Kirbyville Families & Staff,

We are continuing to monitor the situation involving the Coronavirus (COVID-19).  As I have shared with you previously, Kirbyville CISD has taken action in the first phase of measures to attempt to curb the potential spread of viruses, including Coronavirus. Since the virus is now moving closer to our community, we are planning for and anticipate implementing increased measures.

How we make our decisions

We continue to stay in close contact with our local emergency management offices in Jasper and Newton Counties, and with the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) regarding any updates or information relevant to our families. Kirbyville CISD follows recommended guidelines for prevention, treatment, and school closure provided by the TDSHS and the Centers for Disease Control.

In the event that we receive critical information from the CDC or TDSHS that impacts our operations, we will communicate with you. We are also anticipating further guidance from the Texas Education Agency. We have created a group that includes school nurses, administrators, county emergency management staff, and other staff members in critical positions related to health, safety, and emergency operations to help us make decisions as this situation continues and changes.

Preventative measures continue

We will continue the preventive measures and reinforced student messaging for students and staff on our campuses to help maintain the cleanest environment possible. Our campuses are being cleaned daily with institutional-grade cleaners and custodians are diligently addressing common-touch areas. We are also closely monitoring levels of soap and hand sanitizers available to our students and staff on campus. Our school nurses and teachers are also reinforcing messages for students regarding regular hand-washing and other suggested behaviors listed below.

As we work to reinforce these preventive measures during the school day, please help us by sharing these messages with your children at home as we join with you in this partnership to keep them safe and healthy.

Below are helpful reminders and resources related to flu-like illness prevention as we approach spring break and with many who will be traveling.

Helpful reminders

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick. Please do not bring children to school if they are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Consider limiting travel; especially to areas known to have cases of COVID 19.

I know that this situation causes us to have so many questions as parents and staff members. Thank you for working with us to address this situation as best as we can. Please stay tuned for more information as we approach spring break.

As always, please email me if you have questions, comments or concerns.
